Beauty of the Island

My mother, always a woman of impeccable taste and refinement, bought me a card featuring this print "Mount Wellington' by Mandy Reynard. An artist on the island creating portraits of geographical features and beloved spots of the island as 17th Century woman.

It is divine. Go to Handmark Gallery if you fancy a look at the rest of her available work. My favourites are Bless, and of course "The Delicate Workings of Smith".

Speaking of beauty my number two son informed me with great authority the other day that milk is gotten by farmers who squeeze it from cow's milk bottoms. Yum!

Mrs Smith in Action

Can I just tell you how proud of myself I am at this moment?
It has taken me  a couple of hours and many preparatory explorations and misadventures, but I have succeeded in creating a web site (one page, but a web site nonetheless) for the beloved luthier and have succeeded in fighting the ftp complexities and actually published it to the world wide web.

Its not flash (web publishing witty play on words there). Its not even that impressive, but for me its a milestone.

This week I did my last day of working for the man and now I am working for my man.
Suweet!

I can always be counted on to wax lyrical in encouraging friends to follow their hearts , their passions. "Life is too short to work in jobs that you hate, dealing with arseholes and, worst of all, having to care about things that you really don't care about." you will hear me cry in impassioned entreaty whenever the opportunity arrives. Well, I am putting my money where my mouth is. I have walked out on the world of secure jobs and good conditions, to ride the rollercoaster of our business by my husband's side.
I am so happy.
Now I just have to make it pay.

By the way, 36 today.
Don't look a day over ....

Happy Birthday Gertie!

Yes, one year ago today I was carting around one impressive preggers belly and being all nervy about the caesarian that was to come the next day.
One year ago tomorrow I had my last child.

Buongiorno Principessa!

Facts about la principessa:

Also known as - Gertie. Soapie. Sophie Doo. Gertimus Prime.

She is a little beauty.
Sweet.
Stroppy.
Great eater.
Sleeps like a log ( as long as she is in our bed.)
Survived her operation at 3 weeks old and never looked back.
She is big. (I think she will be taller than me when she's 10. Not all that hard - granted.)
Her wardrobe is impressive and extensive.( But that is more about me than her)
She has side curls that make her look like a character from a Dr Suess film.
She dances and sings.
She is a bling fanatic.

I like her .... a lot.
La mia bella principessa.

And when she thinks people or things are cool she says 'oooooooooooooooooo' like this

Team Smith

What a trooper!
My husband ran 10 kilometres in the freezing cold last Sunday morning in 55-ish minutes.
We were there to support of course.

Run Forrest, Run!

Apart from the sporting news, all is well. Bathroom is almost complete only towel rails to be put on.The room is so white and light I keep expecting to hear a choir of angels every time I open the door.

The kitchen is complete but for the splashback and our old kitchen is still in pieces in the backyard. One of Sacha's friends looked at the empty and rahter wrecked-looking space left where our kitchen used to be and declared that Sacha's house was broken. Sacha replied "Yes. Daddy broke it with a hammer."

Let's hope he can fix it.

Other than that we are cold but very pleased to see the return of 'So you think you can dance.'
We really do think we can dance.

Us Today

So here we are, as we are today, well some of us and Granny.

The luthier is at home screwing in our new kitchen. Not screwing up our new kitchen.

We are calling it the bitchen kitchen.

Renos have been the usual round of errant or absent tradesman, resulting in a promising but half-finished bathroom which equals a pain in my arse. And only one of the rought trade was a hottie! Sheesh!

The kitchen , however is bitchen.

What else is with us?

I have decided to ignore our financial position and carry on regardless. It seems to be working at the moment, so all plans of returning to work are delayed until further notice.

My husband went to the symphony orchestra to show off his handiwork on a new cello and was given muchos love, praise and appreciation by those who know.

Now he wants to move to where the musical action is.

Maybe we will.

It would be only fitting, to finally fix up the home and then leave it behind.

But we will see what the future holds.

Now I just need to get more than two consecutive hours sleep or I think I will lose my mind.
I have already misplaced several of my marbles.

I am reading Roald Dahl's autobiography and thinking " What a wonderful life!" He had real adventures as a young man in pre- and wartime Africa. It makes me realise that it made him such a wonderful writer. He learnt to survive on his own, he travelled and lived a really adventurous life.

I hope that many adventures lie ahead of me.

Been a long time

So fuffenscheit is back by popular demand, if you count my sister saying " Can you change your bloody blog" popular demand.
So baby number 3 is 8 months on the outside and as sweet as pie. We have a new kitchen and bathroom afoot. Life is going on.
What else are you up to? I hear you ask? Well I am glad you asked. I am facing the age old dilemma of the poor, the government has finally cut us off the free money and I may have to return to work. Bummer! What a shame my vocation to motherhood doesn't pay.
Here's hoping the luthier strikes it rich just in the nick of time.
One can always hope ...
